Government to tie-up with institutes to advance homeopathy research

NEW DELHI: An autonomous body under the AYUSH department of Union Health Ministry is planning to tie- up with top homeopathy research organisations with an aim of boosting the healthcare industry.

The Central Council for Research in Homeopathy (CCRH), the autonomous body under AYUSH, has called for further research to promote this system of medicine, said Dr R K Manchanda, Director General of CCRH.

Center for Inquiry Invited to Testify Against Homeopathy at FDA Public Hearings

It turns out that a US Skeptics association has been pushing to try to ban homeopathy in the US for some time and they have been invited to the hearing.

After three-and-a-half years of pressure from the Center for Inquiry for the Food and Drug Administration to address the inadequate regulation of homeopathic products, the medicinal claims of which have no scientific basis whatsoever, the FDA has finally announced public hearings on its handling of homeopathy — and CFI has been invited to provide testimony at the hearing.
 

Is the FDA Getting Ready to Ban Homeopathy?

Homeopathy was one of the most common medical practices in the United States in the 1800s. In 1892, homeopaths in the United Stated controlled about 110 hospitals, 145 dispensaries, 62 orphan asylums and old peoples homes, over 30 nursing homes and sanitaria and 16 insane asylums. However, the pharmaceutical industry did everything it could to stomp out homeopathy, and it is not as widespread in the U.S. today as it once was. Worldwide, homeopathy is the second largest system of health care used behind conventional pharmaceutical-based medicine. The number of homeopaths worldwide doubled between 1999 and 2009, and the number of homeopathic hospitals grew from under 2,000 to over 7,000. Currently, there are no homeopathic hospitals in the United States.

There are still homeopaths practicing in the U.S., however, and we have highlighted some of their work here at Health Impact News. Their ability to help heal vaccine injuries, for example, is quite impressive.

Soon, however, the FDA may take steps to further reduce or even eliminate homeopathy in the U.S., as the Alliance for Natural Health reports below.

Liverpool NHS to review £30k homeopathy bill after threat of legal action

Liverpool health bosses are spending £30,000 a year of taxpayers’ money on treatment the NHS admits does not work.

The Good Thinking Society, a pro-science charity (UK skeptics org), threatened the Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) with legal action over its funding for homeopathy.

The organisation has since pledged to review its spending on the alternative treatment.

Homeopathy – the use of highly diluted substances to treat minor ailments – is criticised for lacking scientific backing.

90% of People Trust Homeopathy

A study conducted by IMRB International across Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ranchi ,Jamshedpur, New Delhi and Kolkata, shows 90 per cent of people perceive homeopathy as a trusted form of treatment and its usage is higher than any other form of treatment.

As per the survey conducted amongst the general public it was found that 100% of people are universally aware about homeopathy and 92% perceive it as ‘reputed’ form of treatment. People use homeopathy mainly for backaches, gastro, skin and hair ailments.

Among homeopathy users, 91% are satisfied with the treatment and 93% are willing to recommend homeopathy to others due to higher satisfaction levels with their treatment.

Is Homeopathy Effective and Safe? Yes, say Practitioners from Across the Globe

One of the constant and recurring themes, especially on social media, is the effectiveness and genuineness of Homeopathy as a valid system of medicine.

While both sides have strong arguments, and often strong passion, the Global Homeopathy Foundation has taken it in its hands to dispel what it feels is disinformation by a section of medical community that Homeopathy has only placebo effect.

“As a virologist, I was surprised to learn that homeopathy also sources medicines from virus, bacteria and parasites, long before microbiology was fully developed,” remarked Dr Abhay Chaudhary, Director Haffkine Institute, which also makes polio vaccine in India.

Dismissing the critics’ view point that homeopathy medicines in high dilutions have just a placebo effect and that they are medicines without a medicine, a research has proved that they do contain nano-particles of the starting material. The study by Dr.E.S.Rajendran, MD(Hom), Director of Vinayaka Missions Homeopathic Medical college, Salem, done at the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE) of the Indian Institute of Science (IIS), has conclusively proved that homeopathy dilutions contain nanoparticles.
